Hear me out, you KNOW what I’m about to say. If it were up to me, I would recommend a wedding first look to all my clients. However, I know that that’s not realistic so I’m here to lay out the pros, cons, and answer questions for you! 

What is a first look?

A first look is exactly how it sounds! The first time you see each other on your wedding day. This is often a very intimate and emotional moment.

Pros of doing a wedding first look:

• I’ve been told the first time you see each other is the most nerve racking part of the day. With a first look, you get many of your nerves out of the way prior to the walk down the aisle!
• The moment is more private and intimate. You can touch each other, whisper sweet nothings, and take it all in privately and away from your guests.
• More photo variety. Of COURSE I have to consider the benefits from a photography stand point! Having a first look often allows more time for photos and therefore, a greater variety of photos!
• Emotional? Your makeup can be touched up prior to the ceremony!

Cons of doing a wedding first look:

• Non-traditional. A first look is not considered to be traditional compared with seeing each other at the end of the aisle for the first time.
• You’ll have to adjust your timeline to get ready earlier. You will likely have to start getting ready earlier in the day in order to allow for photos before the ceremony.

A first look doesn’t have to be with your spouse! Not sure if you want to see each other before the ceremony? That’s okay! Some other first looks you could consider are:

• With your parents/grandparents 
• With your bridal party
• Your siblings

Trust me, if their jaw is going to drop to the floor when you look THIS stunning, you’re going to want that forever on camera!

Whatever you decide, your photographer will support you! At the end of the day it is your wedding, your photos, your memories, and they should be whatever you want them to be!
